Dance of Death

Reuters reported an outcry of blasphemy from the Catholic Church after a performance in Toledo, Spain, by the Morboria Theatre Company. The zombie parade, based on a medieval Dance of Death, included a procession of a Virgin Mary and a Saint Peter amongst zombies, ghouls, and devils.

The newspaper, El Pais, quoted the Archbishop Antonio Canizares saying "We ask forgiveness for those who yesterday insulted the body of Christ." He went on, stating "This feast and all it means are much bigger than this belittling and rolling about on the streets."

The irony is, they were paid by the city. "We were hired by the town hall," stated Eva de Palacio of the Morboria Theatre Company. Most everyone was pleased by the performance except for a small group of protesters, whom are now praying for those involved in the "mockery of the Catholic celebration of Corpus Christi".

Toledo is considered Spain’s most conservative towns in a society that has become Europe’s most socially liberal countries. Toledo has had to endure the legalization of gay marriage and the simplification of divorce. Now they have to be forced to watch their church be publicly mocked?

I think that the Catholic Church is warning the world that we should prepare, rather than emulate, the impending apocolypse. "The time is nigh that we should focus on survival of the body and soul. As we become more desensitized to these frightful scenarios, the less we will be ready for it when it arrives" stated a representative of the Catholic Church that requested to remain anonymous.
