Zombie sighting at ‘Night of the Living Dead’ site a hoax, police say

Evans City, Pennsylvania – A 60-year-old man was charged Friday with disorderly conduct for allegedly lying about seeing two zombies in a Evans City cemetery, authorities said.

Evans City police Chief Paul Gaddis said Michael Lorenzo warned people to stay away from the cemetery at the Evans City cemetery on Thursday. Lorenzo claimed that he had seen two zombies about 6 feet tall and 185 pounds each while he was maintaining the land for a groundskeeping company.

Officials closed off the cemetery, but Gaddis said investigators later determined Lorenzo was lying.

When asked by detectives whose company he worked for, Lorenzo gave the name of a nonexistent company and owner, Gaddis said.

The cemetery was reopened Friday.

In 1968, George Romero chose Evans City for filming the movie version of “Night of the Living Dead,” depicting a zombie infestation in a fictional Pennsylvanian community.
