A recent discovery has some scientists on guard for a possible man-made zombie invasion. A report has been released that show that a neuro pathway in your nervous system called the Phophoinositide-3 Kinase Pathway holds the key to housing and cultivating the reproduction of the Ebola virus, and other viral infections.
The report indicates that the P-3K Pathway is tricked into drawing in a virus and giving it the environment in which to duplicate and spread. This discovery was first met with great excitement and optimism because it infers that shutting down or inhibiting the pathway should stop any further viral symptoms and the invasion is halted.
However, this discovery also leads to a horrible truth about the P-3KP. Microbiology and immunology associate professor Robert Davey explains, “It’s actually triggering the reorganizing of the cell for its own devious outcomes — infecting the cell. But there are other possible outcomes of fiddling around with the P-3 kinase. You can get the cell to move, you can get it to live longer, all advantages for a virus. So I’m sure that this is going to be important in other viruses.”
This statement encapsulates the fears of many scientists: someone could manipulate the P-3KP to actually reanimate a body. By triggering the Pathway, someone could find a way to manipulate cells and their function, allowing it to live longer in the body, and possibly send signals to muscles in the body to make them move.
Only time will tell the truth about the nature of the P-3KP. Scientists could be jumping at shadows, or they are preparing for a truth more horrific than any single plague or virus in our history.
