Pecos, TX – A riot at a Texas containment center was ended Sunday.
One building was heavily damaged, and about 700 zombies are going to spend the next couple weeks in the open, authorities said.
The disturbance began Saturday at the Redneck County Containment Center near Pecos in west Texas, and hundreds of zombies continued rioting overnight in the second such incident at the facility in less than two months.
June Orosco with the Redneck County Hazardous Materials Office said the office was notified by the center at about 4 p.m. Sunday that “they got it under control.” Orosco did not have details on how the situation ended, but she said no injuries were reported at the center,
The office reported it had no explanation for the rioting.
Three zombies were inspected Saturday after fighting began, one with a severed finger, according to the hazardous material’s office.
In addition to center personnel, military personnel and special forces from several other agencies remained at the facility Sunday night.
With one of three buildings at the containment center damaged extensively in the rioting, “the warden is trying to figure out where [the center] can house the zombies,” Orosco said.
She said that fences were set up on center grounds, and zombies would be transferred to other center facilities on Monday so damage could be repaired.
The center is a 2,400-bed, low-security facility, operated by Necro Group Inc. It houses federal zombies as well as zombies from other states.
As many as 2,000 zombies from two of the center’s three buildings began fighting in the center yard about 4:30 p.m. Saturday, according to the center’s office. The center is about 430 miles from Dallas, Texas.
On December 12, zombies trapped two workers and accidentally set fire to the recreation area. Those zombies were put down later that night.
