We’re aware of those tax evaders and pinko tree-hugging liberals in California, but now New York is up to no good? Tax Returns of the Living Dead may seem like a new video game but according to www.nbcnewyork.com 26 Bronx and Manhattan tax preparers used dead people to claim the bulk of about $95 million in refunds since 2001.
Authorities are calling this the largest coordinated takedown of tax preparers in history. The effort is lamely named “Operation Brass Tax”. Undercover IRS agents posed as clients and recorded some of the defendants promising to concoct fake business losses and inflate other deductions, prosecutors said. Besides seeing dead people, investigators also spotted deductions for businesses that don’t exist, inflated commissions and identity theft of people living in Puerto Rico, frequent victims of such scams because they have social security numbers but don’t have to file federal tax returns, prosecutors said.
So far only 16 tax preparers have been arrested, while 6 remain at large. Well, we here at ZWN hope those remaining 6 get caught by the zombies of those fraudulently used for the scams and get their brains eaten!
